CEO of travel company accused of data theft
The chief executive officer, an expat from UK, and director of a travel company were on Monday summoned to the office of senior police officials of Gurgaon police in a case of data theft.
A case of breach of Information Technology Act was filed against the duo and two more employees of the same company in December last year.
Cleartrip CEO Stuart Crighton and director Amit Taneja participated in the investigation in the office of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Surender Singh.
"They were arrested and released immediately as the duo had already obtained anticipatory bail," Joint CP Alok Mittal said.
Cleartrip Chief Operating Officer (COO) P.K.X. Thomas clarified that there was no truth in the case against their officials, who were accused of data theft "out of professional rivalry".
In December last Travelocity filed a case of theft of confidential and proprietary data and source codes against Amit Taneja, Stuart Crighton and two more people.
In September, Taneja was sacked as managing director of Desia Online Distribution, which was acquired by Travelocity.
"But Travelocity soon realized its mistake as it came to know that Taneja was going to join Cleartrip. They started making all out efforts not to let him join our company. It was in this endeavour that they started harassing us by way of filing police complaint and finally an FIR was registered,” said Thomas of Cleartrip.
Himanshu Singh, the managing director Travelocity, said Taneja conspired with the officials of Cleartrip and illegally took confidential and proprietary data and source codes causing huge loss to the company.
