Only 13 immigration consultancy firms registered in SAS Nagar

In blatant violation of the Punjab Prevention of Human Smuggling Act 2012, hundreds of immigration consultancy firms in the district are functioning without registration.

With a flurry of fraud complaints against such firms, the Punjab governor on January 4, 2013, had given assent to the Act, following which it became mandatory for all immigration consultants to get registered.

The Act was put in place to check and curb immigration firms’ illegal and fraudulent activities and malpractices of the persons involved in organisational human smuggling in Punjab.

However, two years on, of the about 1,000 immigration consultancy companies in the district, only 13 are registered and another 60 are in queue, even as the SAS Nagar police since 2011 have registered 525 cases pertaining to immigration frauds.

Consultants say the cumbersome and stringent registration policy has kept them from getting registered.

A company needs to fill up a form giving out particulars and an affidavit stating that they have not been convicted before. Also, a fee ranging from of `25,000 to `1 lakh is to be paid depending on the number of years a consultant has been in business.

These particulars are then verified by the police and a report is submitted to the administration which issues registration.

Once registered, the consultancy firms need to share their data of clients, the fee they charge, and get their seminars and advertisements approved from the administration.

According to sources in the district administration, it was found in a survey that about 1,000 unregistered consultants were working in the district. The report of the survey was shared with the police.

She asked me to pay 25k for that offer letter.their motive is 25 k only once u gave that's it.
I experienced a lot guys before two years back I paid 30k and put medical and all the visa is still coming.now everyone from that consultancy was absconded.i have that pain still that's y I'm sharing.so be alert guys.
Even though u believe this consultancy ，don't pay any single amount unless and until u received your visa and verified.

Rudraksh Group Overseas Solutions case 

Last year, Sukhwant Singh, 28, a resident of Sangrur approached an immigration consultant, Rudraksh Group Overseas Solutions in Phase 1. The consultant failed to send Sukhwant abroad. Also, he did not get the Rs 2.5 lakh he paid after taking a loan with a massive rate of interest. Singh committed suicide by consuming poison in the office of the immigration firm in December. A case of abetment to suicide was registered.

According to records with the administration, there are more than 1,100 immigration firms in the district, of which only 32 are registered. Even though the high court has made registration of immigration firms mandatory, more than 80 firms are awaiting approval from the state government. With authorities failing to implement high court orders, unregistered firms continue to play havoc with people's lives

When he went to collect his visa, the office of the firm was locked and their cell phones were switched off. Jaswinder Singh, a Mohali resident paid Rs 6.4 lakh to go Singapore. But he ended up in Malaysia, where he was thrashed and blackmailed by goons of the immigration firm in 2015.

Sources in the NRI wing said four complaints are received every day on an average but action has not been taken against a single firm so far. All the cases against immigration firms are pending in court or the accused owners are at large. No immigration office has been closed so far.

SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said, "Most people are gullible as they don't understand the procedure of immigration. If they knew, they could apply directly to the embassy or online. Those interested in immigration must ascertain the history of the immigration firm from the police."
