30 dogs at Mohali shelter ‘attacked with acid, sticks, machete’; cops deny claim
More than 30 dogs were allegedly attacked with acid, sticks and machete at an animal shelter in Nandiali village near Airport Road on Tuesday.
The owner of the shelter, Protection and Care for Animals (PACFA), claimed that the dogs were brutally beaten up and then acid was thrown at them.
However, police who were informed of the incident denied that the dogs were attacked.
Dhaliwal said, “I am running the shelter inside a rented space. Dharminder, a servant at the owner’s house came and attacked the dogs under the influence of alcohol with three others. The owners asked me to vacate the house a fortnight ago.”
Dhaliwal further added that a dog was killed and the body was recovered. She claimed four of the pups were cut and injured.
She further said 19 dogs were missing and 11 sustained grievous injuries. She named three men and claimed that they attacked the boys in the shelter home.
She further claimed that she was assaulted by the trio and that police did not register a case against them even though she lodged a complaint.
Sohana station house officer Rajan Parwinder Singh said, “We are looking into the incident and we did not find anything to substantiate that the dogs were attacked or even injured.”
Police said the owner of the shelter, Resham Dhaliwal, came to them after she had an argument with her landlord.
He added, “It is possibly a dispute between landlord and tenant. No case was registered.”
Dhaliwal keeps stray dogs at the home and also keeps dogs whose owners are away.
