Remand for immigration firm MD, manager Posted at: Dec 8, 2015, 2:13 AM; last updated: Dec 8, 2015, 1:33 AM (IST) Mohali, December 7 In the case of the alleged suicide by 26-year-old Sukhwant Singh, the court today remanded Rakesh Kumar, managing director of a local immigration consultancy service, Rudraksh Group, and its manager Deepak to one-day police custody. Rakesh and Deepak were arrested by the Mohali police yesterday in a case registered against them under Section 306 of the IPC at the Phase I police station on the complaint of the victim’s kin. Sukhwant had allegedly taken poison in front of the office of Rudraksh Group at Phase 1 here on December 3. The victim’s kin alleged that he was upset as the accused were not returning Rs 2.5 lakh, which they had taken from him around two years ago on the pretext of sending him to Canada on work visa. — TNS

WWICS ordered to refund Rs 7 lakh to Ludhiana complainant MOHALI: District Consumer Forum, Mohali, ordered an immigration company — WWICS (World Wide Immigration Consultancy Services) — to refund rupees seven lakh and pay Rs50,000 for the harassment faced by Harpreet Singh Malhotra, a Ludhiana resident. The complainant Harpreet Singh Malhotra had approached the WWICS in 2011 for a work visa to Canada. Arvinder Singh, an executive of WWICS, apprised him regarding the permanent residence programme in the state of Manitoba (Canada). He further asked the complainant to submit his resume. Harpreet was informed that WWICS would arrange two sponsors for the complainant and his family. Three different agreements were signed between the Harpreet and WWICS on March 31, 2011. As per the agreements, Harpreet had paid Rs70,000 as retainership fee, plus $4,500 and $6,000 to WWICS.
